Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh has won World Chess championship title when he beat reigning champion Ding Liren in Singapore. He achieved this victory by clinching the last and final classical game.
It was a dramatic affair in the decisive 14th game in Singapore, as a blunder from Liren in the end game saw Gukesh come out on top.D Gukesh also became the 18th world champion at the age of 18.
Announcing the development the international chess federation (FIDE) announced on X that D Gukesh had become ‘the youngest world champion’ in history. This followed Ding’s resignation in a gripping endgame that many anticipated would conclude in a draw.

Overcome with emotion Gukesh burst into tears, burying his face in his hands upon realising his new title. At the age of 18, four years younger than Garry Kasparov who had been the youngest world champion since 1985.
World number one Magnus Carlsen, who had been world champion since 2013 relinquished his title in 2022,citing a lack of motivation.
